ReActor2 Brings
CBC's First Animated Kids'
Host to Life
Burlington,
Vermont USA: November
10, 2003: CBC's
animated pre-school
television host has
burst to life onscreen
through motion capture
provided by
Ascension Technology's
ReActor®2.
The infrared active-optical
tracker helps CBC turn
a simple line figure
into a playful pixie
appearing in interstitial
segments during the
Kids' CBC morning block.
"Dot" is the first mocap
animated children's
host to appear on Canadian
television. |

At the new animation studio
in the Canadian Broadcasting
Centre, the Kids' CBC Production
team uses ReActor2 full time,
9 am to 5 pm, five days a
week. The team works 2-4 weeks
ahead of airing material,
producing most segments live-to-tape.
CBC selected ReActor2 for
four reasons: Ascension's
proven reputation in the industry,
the "active" component of
Reactor2's optical markers
for instant real-time recognition,
the price point, and ReActor2's
capability to interface with
the Kaydara family of software
products.
According to Rob Aitchison,
Motion Capture Specialist
for CBC and Raitch.CA, CBC's
successful history with Ascension
motion trackers led them to
ReActor2. "I am very happy
that CBC selected the Ascension
ReActor2, having had lots
of experience with both the
Flock of Birds and MotionStar
products over the past decade,"
Aitchison said. "ReActor2
has proven to be very reliable
and stable day in and day
out. Ascension has always
provided solid products along
with professional customer
support in all my dealings
with them."
Joyful and energetic, Dot
is taking Kids' CBC by storm.
Originally a figure from the
Get Set for Life logo, the
little red-headed host is
now joined onscreen by live
hosts Alyson Court and Michael
Clarke as well as five new
regional hosts chosen to represent
preschoolers across Canada.
Kids' CBC
helps preschoolers explore,
discover and learn about the
world around them and gain
self-esteem while having fun.
