MotionStar Wireless
Used in New International
Network TV Animated Programs
Burlington, Vermont
USA; March 12, 2003:
Using Ascension Technology’s
MotionStar Wireless®
for extensive motion capture
animation, Antefilms
Studio is currently
in production for a new children’s
series, Code: Lyoko
(26 half hour segments),
which follows production of
Funky Cops
(26 half hour segments).
MotionStar Wireless’ real
time motion tracking allows
Antefilms’ directors to optimize
their mocap sessions by choreographing
movements then viewing them
immediately with instantaneous
playback. MotionStar tracks
body movement with advanced
pulsed DC magnetic field technology.
This untethered tracker can
capture the motions of up
to 5 performers with six degrees
of freedom, simultaneously,
in real time, without occlusion.
Scheduled for release in
September 2003, Code Lyoko
mixes 2D and 3D animation
to depict parallel worlds
of reality and virtual reality.
Code Lyoko chronicles the
adventures of a group of pupils
who are the only ones to know
that there is a parallel universe,
a virtual world. They are
going to fight against what
normal people can't see and
travel further than anybody
has ever imagined. Their mission:
saving the planet, but only
after school. In the real
(2D) world, these neighborhood
friends discover a covert
research center in an abandoned
auto factory. In the virtual
(3D) world, the friends transform
into super alter egos who
must thwart the super computer’s
mad plans. Each episode involves
both worlds, with the change
in animation style signaling
a switch.
The Code Lyoko series was
designed by Tania Palumbo
and Thomas Romain, and is
directed by Jérôme
Mouscadet. It is being co-produced
by France 3 and Canal J, and
distributed by Antefilms International.
Funky Cops, co-produced by
M6 and TPS Cinema, tells the
tales of Ace and Dick, two
free-spirited San Francisco
cops by day who transform
into disco stars by night.
Shown in many countries worldwide,
Funky Cops was just picked
up in the United States by
4Kids Entertainment for broadcast
on the Fox network’s Saturday
morning kids block. Antefilms
is planning Funky Cops’ second
season with 13 new episodes
scheduled for 2004.
Other new shows to Antefilms’
credit are Fred the Caveman
(with Tube Studio – Teletoon
Canada and Teletoon France),
Pet Alien (with Mike Young
Production and TF1) and Anaita,
Legend of the Abyss (with
France 3). For more information
