Ascension and NexGen
Sign Distribution Agreement
BURLINGTON, VERMONT; JANUARY
6, 2004: Ascension
Technology Corporation
is pleased to announce the
signing of a non-exclusive
distribution agreement with
NexGen Ergonomics, Inc. NexGen
will now offer Ascension’s
Flock of Birds®, MotionStar®
and other motion tracking
devices for ergonomics and
biomechanical job analysis,
design and research.
Ascension trackers are used
in a number of ergonomic and
biomechanical applications
that take advantage of instant
motion measurement without
the occlusions common to optical
tracking systems. Years of
innovative research have resulted
in the increasing use of magnetic
motion tracking to quantify
human motions for design feedback,
rehabilitation and performance
assessment purposes.
The Flock of Birds and MotionStar
are used for head/hand/instrument/body
tracking in human factors
analysis and rehabilitative
feedback and assessment. Ascension’s
pulsed DC magnetic technology
is ideal for clinical and
research environments because
it is five times less susceptible
to distortion caused by nearby
metals than AC technology.
Both Flock of Birds and MotionStar
can be configured to track
multiple sensors simultaneously
with either RS-232 or high
speed Ethernet interfaces
to a host computer.
According to David Pinchefsky,
President of NexGen, Ascension
was selected as a strategic
partner because of its well
known product line in motion
capture solutions. “NexGen
is developing advanced human
modeling solutions, and Ascension’s
products are well suited for
these applications,” explains
Pinchefsky.
“Ascension’s products fit
in well with our world leading
technology product line for
the ergonomics and human factors
market for researchers requiring
the top performance of the
Flock of Birds and MotionStar
products,” he adds.
Ascension’s MotionStar provides
full body motion capture in
both tethered and wireless
configurations. When purchased
with appropriate animation
software and workstation,
MotionStar is a “turn-key”
system, providing tracking
solutions for a broad array
of biomechanics and simulation
applications.
NexGen (Montreal,
Canada) is the leading distributor
and developer of systems for
ergonomics and biomechanical
analysis and research. These
systems include a variety
of software analysis tools
performing biomechanical,
NIOSH, RULA and other analyses
along with human vibration
analysis, force measurement
instrumentation, 3D human
modeling and motion capture.
