Researchers at the University of Carabobo in Venezuela under the direction of Drs. Luis Jara and Guillermo Montilla developed it. Called Neuronavigator, it uses Ascension magnetic sensors for real-time guidance of the tip of a biopsy needle referenced to 3D reconstructions of a patients pre-acquired MRI. During the procedure, the sensor tracks the needle's path, permitting real-time visualization of its trajectory to the precise location of an anatomical abnormality.
